Progress Report: May 2012

Hey guys,

my Malifaux minis finally arrived, so I got right on painting them up. Because of this, I decided to split my Progress Reports into two sections - Warmachine and Malifaux.

So there you go, my update for May 2012:

Online Store Review: Wayland Games

Hey guys!

Today, I wanted to do another online store review. This time about Wayland Games, one of the major players and one of the, if not the biggest hobby online store in Europe.

From Zero to Hero: Ol'Rowdy - Cygnar Character Heavy Warjack

Hey guys!

I've built Ol'Rowdy way back and finally decided it's time to slap some paint on him. This also gave me the chance to experiment a bit and giving Oil Washes a first try.

Christmas came early: My first Malifaux figures

Hey you guys!

As promised, I want to update you on my next project, the Malifaux figures. After waiting for the backorders to get in, my models have finally arrived.

Neverborn minis
They are:
  • Bad Dreams Box
  • Teddy
  • Malifaux Cherub
  • Doppelganger
  • Baby Kade
  • Daydreams
Can't wait to get started on these :-)

Teddy is already a WIP, but I'm still waiting for the Iron Halo Base inserts to arrive - two and a half weeks since they shipped and I still haven't heard a thing. The were sent from New Zealand, but still - when is the time one should get worried?

Cheers,

Tools of the Trade: Using Oil Washes

Hey guys!

One of the more recent trends in our wargame hobby is using oil paints to wash and weather our models. This technique has been around for much longer in the scale modelling community, but Les from Awesomepaintjob really has made many people try their hands at this technique.

You'll need:

  • Oil Paint (Black or Dark Brown is preferred for most uses)
  • Thinner (White Spirits, which you can get in Germany under the name "Waschbenzin")
  • Something to mix the wash in
  • Synthetic Brushes (White Spirit is very harsh to the bristles and you don't want to kill your good brushes for this)
  • Make-Up Applicator or cotton buds (For clean up)
  • Gloss or Satin Varnish

SAFETY TIP: Open a window when using White Spirits as thinner. This stuff is really nasty and will give you a monstrous headache (or worse) when you use it in an enclosed space. Also, be very careful of open flames, as the stuff is highly inflammable.

A change is coming

Since I started this blog, I've concentrated on building and painting my Warmachine Forces - over the last few weeks I became interested in the range of Malifaux figures by Wyrd Games - and I just fell in love with some of the sculpts, as they are some of the most dynamic (and creepy) miniatures I've seen so far.

So expect a lot more Malifaux from this point on, or at least, when I finally get the minis I ordered in the mail ;-).

Cheers,

From Zero to Hero: Sword Knights - Cygnar Unit Box

Hey guys,

welcome to my quick tutorial on how I painted my Sword Knights. I experimented a bit on these figures and opted for a quick and dirty scheme, as I wanted to try my hand at speedpainting. All in all, the whole unit took me about 4 hours (excluding drying times) - and it shows, as the level of detail is much lower than the rest of my army to this point.

Preview of the finished unit.
